The measure, zodiac, planets, and points (Bindu) must be considered; the lunar mansions and signs; the friendship of the five-fold devotions; purity, the yoga-vowel, and the pearl-power (8). The measure is the name of the foundation.
The letters beginning with 'Ka' and the other consonant groups are born from these. The term 'measure' original: matra here signifies a vowel of equivalent duration. A vowel that possesses its proper measure is auspicious for the successful realization of mantras and other sacred formulas. One should engage in the practice of mantras only when the strength of the vowel's measure is favorable. 2 To determine the Life-Vowel Jiva-svara: the "living" or dominant vowel that governs an individual's vital energy, a calculation of the consonants and vowels must be performed.
In this system of vowels, the sixteen original: shodasha vowels are to be utilized. Among the eight groups of consonants—the groups beginning with 'Ka', 'Cha', 'Ta', 'Ta', and 'Pa'—the fifth number is to be selected. After establishing this single sum and dividing it, the remainder indicates the Life-Vowel which should be chosen for all auspicious works.
When the sum of the measures and the phonetic values is multiplied by 5, the remainder becomes the Aggregate Vowel Pinda-svara: the totalized numerical value of a name used for divination. These calculations are particularly applied within the four-cornered diagram concerning the commander of an army. If a commander's Aggregate Vowel is also a "Youthful" vowel In Svara-shastra, vowels are categorized by "age" (infant, youth, adult, old, dead) to determine their potency, that commander shall be great and victorious.
