The Auspicious Timing of Ganpati

Muhurta Ganapati Chapter 3 -

On an "Empty" Riktalunar days 4, 9, and 14, considered unfavorable for new beginnings day, no auspicious work is successful at all. ॥ 10 ॥ Rituals such as the student's initiation Vratabandhathe thread ceremony, marriage, travel, and the decrees of kings—as well as rites for peace Shantika and prosperity Paushtika—attain complete success on a "Full" Purna day. ॥ 11 ॥

Now, the general auspicious and inauspicious lunar days.

The second, the fifth, the third, and the seventh; likewise the tenth, the eleventh, the "Empty" days, the first day of the fortnight Pratipad, and the thirteenth. ॥ 12 ॥ These "Full" lunar days are declared the best and bring prosperity when used for the activities prescribed for them; for other activities, the lunar days are considered undesirable and are avoided by the wise. ॥ 13 ॥ The "Empty" fourteenth day, the first day of the Bright Fortnight, and the day known as the New Moon DarshaAmavasya—these must be avoided with great effort for all auspicious works. ॥ 14 ॥

Now, the "Joint-Hole" days of the fortnight. PaksharandhraSpecific points in the lunar cycle considered spiritually "vulnerable" or unlucky

The fourth, sixth, eighth, ninth, twelfth, and the fourteenth—these lunar days are called the "Joint-Holes" of the fortnight. They are to be abandoned in all ritual works. ॥ 15 ॥

Of these days, the portions related to the Vasus the 8th day, Indra the 14th day, the Elements the 5th/25th, the Directions the 10th, and the Arrows the 5th are to be given up. These specific portions measured in Ghatikas or 24-minute units are to be abandoned as if they were consumed by a shadow; the remaining parts of the day are auspicious. ॥ 16 ॥

Now, the auspiciously-named days.

For the four zodiac signs starting with Aries Mesha, the four days starting from the first Pratipad are auspicious; the fifth day is also celebrated as favorable for this group of four. ॥ 17 ॥ For Leo Simha, Virgo Kanya, Libra Tula, and Scorpio Ali, the days from the sixth onward are auspicious in order; thus the group of four ends with the tenth, and the eleventh is also a happy day. ॥ 18 ॥ For the four signs starting with Sagittarius Dhanu, the Full Moon is the most supreme day. When a lunar day is joined with an inauspicious planet or sign, it does not bring good fortune. ॥ 19 ॥

Now, the specific activities for each lunar day.

Marriage, festivals, travel, and the installation of deities; these works, as well as those involving stone and similar materials, one should perform on the first day Pratipad of the Bright Fortnight. ॥ 20 ॥
