Anointing oneself with oil TailabhangaThe traditional practice of oil massage, which is restricted on certain days of the week in Hindu astrology is not considered a fault if it is performed in public, during a festival, in times of illness, or when specifically prescribed by scriptural injunctions. Furthermore, oil massage is not harmful when done on a Friday with cow dung, on a Tuesday with earth original: "mrid," likely referring to sacred clay or soil, on a Thursday with Durva grass, or on a Sunday when the Moon is in the Pushya mansion yat?. ॥ 23 ॥ Oil that has been consecrated with mantras, mustard oil, oil scented with flowers, or oil mixed with other substances never brings about a negative astrological effect. ॥ 24 ॥

The deity of Ashvini is the two Ashvins the divine twin physicians; Bharani has Yama the god of death as its deity. Krittika is said to belong to Agni fire, Rohini to the Creator original: Vidhata/Brahma, and [the next] to the God of Love. ॥ 1 ॥ Mrigashira is ruled by the Moon original: Chandra, while Ardra is ruled by Shiva. Aditi is the mistress of Punarvasu, and Brihaspati original: Vakpati, the Lord of Speech is the lord of Pushya. ॥ 2 ॥ The lord of Ashlesha is the Serpent; the Ancestors original: Pitris are remembered as the lords of Magha. Bhaga is the lord of Purva Phalguni, and Aryaman is the lord of Uttara Phalguni. ॥ 3 ॥ The Sun original: Surya is the lord of Hasta; Tvashtr the divine architect is the lord of the mansion named Chitra. Vayu wind is the deity of Svati, and Indra and Agni are the deities of Vishakha. ॥ 4 ॥ Mitra is the lord of Anuradha, and Indra is said to be the lord of Jyeshtha. The deity of Mula is the Rakshas often identified with Nirriti, the goddess of destruction, and Water original: Jala/Apah is the lord of Purvashadha. ॥ 5 ॥ The Universal Gods original: Vishvedevas are the deities of Uttara Phalguni likely a scribal error for Uttarashadha...

Rohini, Pushya, Mrigashira, Hasta, Ashvini, the three "Uttara" mansions Uttara Phalguni, Uttarashadha, and Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati, Shravana, Dhanishtha, Punarvasu, Anuradha, and Svati—these lunar mansions are auspicious. All favorable actions are successfully accomplished during these times. ॥ 1 ॥ The three "Purva" mansions Purva Phalguni, Purvashadha, and Purva Bhadrapada, Vishakha, Jyeshtha, Ardra, Mula, and Shatataraka—these fifteen are considered of middling or "ordinary" quality.
