AshviniThe first Lunar Mansion, symbolized by a horse's head, associated with speed and healing: Under the mansion of the Ashvins, one should undertake travel, administer medicine, adorn oneself with ornaments, handle weapons, pursue learning, practice arts and crafts, manage elephants, perform marriages, and engage in auspicious festivities. ॥ 16 ॥
BharaniThe second Lunar Mansion, ruled by Yama, the god of death; associated with transformation and restraint: During this mansion, one may carry out daring or harsh deeds, the destruction of enemies, imprisonment, acts involving poison or fire, and other such fierce activities original: "krurukhya," likely referring to cruel or formidable tasks. ॥ 17 ॥
KrittikaThe third Lunar Mansion, associated with the Pleiades and the element of fire: In Krittika, one should always perform acts of courage, take possession of property, or carry out the slaying of enemies. It is also suitable for marriage and for tasks that require a combination of harshness and friendship original: "loman-maitra," perhaps referring to tasks like weaving or reconciling opposites. ॥ 18 ॥
RohiniThe fourth Lunar Mansion, often considered the most auspicious for growth and beauty: One should perform strengthening rituals PaushtikaRituals intended to increase health, wealth, or prosperity, marriage, the accumulation of wealth, the building of palaces or temples, auspicious ceremonies, and the making of ornaments. ॥ 19 ॥
MrigashirshaThe fifth Lunar Mansion, symbolized by a deer's head, associated with searching and wandering: Marriage, opening shops, travel, the installation of deities, architectural work, and starting service for others are all successful when done under the auspicious Mrigashirsha. ॥ 20 ॥
ArdraThe sixth Lunar Mansion, associated with the star Betelgeuse; its name means "the moist one" and it is linked to stormy emotions: In Ardra, one should engage in conflict, binding, cutting, killing, and work involving poison, fire, or sorcery original: "darunocchatane," referring to the magical expulsion of enemies. ॥ 21 ॥
PunarvasuThe seventh Lunar Mansion, associated with the return of light and renewal: Under Punarvasu, one should perform rituals for peace ShantiCeremonies to pacify negative planetary influences or ill omens, strengthening rituals, travel, wearing ornaments, architecture, religious vows, the acquisition of vehicles, and the pursuit of higher learning. ॥ 22 ॥
PushyaThe eighth Lunar Mansion, considered the best of all stars for most activities, except marriage: All movable and fixed works, peace rituals, and festivals for prosperity may be conducted here. One may perform dances and theatrical arts, but one must exclude marriage under the Pushya mansion. ॥ 23 ॥
AshleshaThe ninth Lunar Mansion, symbolized by a coiled serpent, associated with secrets and intensity: In Ashlesha, one may strike at enemies, conduct commerce, or perform daring acts. It is also a time for dealings with poison or snakes, theft, and acts of deceit. ॥ 24 ॥
MaghaThe tenth Lunar Mansion, associated with the "Pitris" or ancestral spirits: Under Magha, one should perform ancestral rites original: "paittrikam karyam", the planting of crops, water-related projects, marriages, and funeral ceremonies ShraddhaRituals performed to honor and nourish deceased ancestors, as well as acts of boldness. ॥ 25 ॥
Rama 6Purva PhalguniThe eleventh Lunar Mansion, associated with rest, relaxation, and the arts: During Purva Phalguni, one should attend to matters of imprisonment, harsh deeds, craftsmanship, deceitful maneuvers, and protection. Creative works such as painting are also perfected here. ॥ 26 ॥
Uttara PhalguniThe twelfth Lunar Mansion, associated with patronage and the rewards of hard work: Under the mansion of Uttara Phalguni, one should perform marriages, take religious vows, engage in permanent or fixed works, make ornaments, begin the construction of a house, or enter a new home for the first time. ॥ 27 ॥
HastaThe thirteenth Lunar Mansion, symbolized by a hand, associated with the Sun and skill: In the mansion of the Sun original: "ravibhe," referring to Hasta, one should carry out travel, learning, marriage, the making of ornaments or clothing, the beginning of house construction, and rituals of consecration. ॥ 28 ॥
