The results of these alignments should be understood to match their very names. In Vedic astrology, a person's character or the day's "flavor" is often interpreted through the meaning of the Yoga name active at that time.
The alignments named Vaidhriti and Vyatipata are entirely inauspicious and should be avoided for all good works. In Vajra and Vishkambha, one should avoid the first three ghatikas A term for a 24-minute period; three ghatikas equal 1 hour and 12 minutes. In Parigha, avoid the first half. In Vyaghata, avoid nine ghatikas. In Ganda and Atiganda, six ghatikas should be discarded. 5 All of Sukarma is considered acceptable. For the remaining parts of these alignments, the effects are considered ordinary. Some authorities say that for any unfavorable alignment, one should simply avoid the first quarter or half.

There are seven "moving" half-lunar days original: "Karanas": Bava, Balava, Kaulava, Taitila, Gara, Vanija, and Vishti. These follow the lunar days in sequence. 25 Starting from the first day of the bright fortnight, the Bava Karana occurs in the first half of the day, followed by the next in the second half. 2 After the second half of the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight, the "fixed" Karana Shakuni occurs. Then follow Chatushpada, Naga, and Kinstughna during the four halves of the dark moon period Amavasya. 3 These appear before the start of the next bright fortnight. Rama
