The middle two children are considered best for certain rites. For some, the eldest three are a source of wealth, while for others, the month of Jyeshtha The lunar month usually falling in May–June is considered acceptable. 62 One should never perform the marriage of a firstborn son or a firstborn daughter in the month of Jyeshtha; it is said to be mutually harmful for both firstborns to wed during this time. 63 Among the "three Jyeshthas" original: kayatraye; referring to the firstborn son, firstborn daughter, and the month of Jyeshtha, if all three coincide, it leads to ruin. If two coincide, it is mixed, but if only the month is Jyeshtha (and the couple are not firstborns), it is auspicious. 64 When the Sun is in the constellation of Krittika the Pleiades during the month of Jyeshtha, one should avoid all festivals, marriages, and auspicious gatherings, as they lead to the loss of wealth and harmony. 65
During the astrological combination of Vyatipata, one suffers from disease and fear of fire; during the Ganda yoga, there is a risk of losing jewels or skin ailments. 66 In the Vaidhriti yoga, there is a loss of courage; in the Vishkumbha yoga, a woman may become wayward; in the Vyaghata yoga, the strength of the lineage is lost, or a daughter may be born under difficult circumstances. 67 During the Parigha yoga, one becomes prone to violence or excessive meat-eating; during the Ganda yoga, one becomes a thief or meets with accidents. If a marriage is performed during these bird-related omens original: sakuna; referring to specific divinatory signs, it leads to death. 69 Even if the eighth house of the couple's horoscope contains a benefic planet, if the ascendant original: lagna; the sign rising on the eastern horizon is poorly placed, it brings death to the couple. 70
The marriage of a son and daughter, or a marriage and a tonsure ceremony original: mundana; the ritual shaving of a child's head, or two marriage ceremonies should not be performed together. 71 One should not perform a tonsure after an initiation, nor a house entry after a departure, nor a departure immediately after a house entry. 72 If another auspicious event is performed within six months of a marriage, it is certain that within three years, success will be achieved. 73 Two marriages should never be performed at once, nor two tonsure ceremonies. After a daughter's marriage, a son's marriage may take place after a gap of four days. 74
After a daughter's marriage, three days later is considered auspicious for other rites. However, a son's marriage should not be performed nor should two daughters be married at the same time in any circumstance. 75 The tonsure ceremony and the sacred thread ceremony original: maunji; Upanayana should be separated by time. If they are for children of the same mother, they should never be done together. 76 In the months of Phalguna Feb–March and Chaitra March–April, the initiation of a son should be done according to the secret rules without delay. 77 If the marriage of a son is to happen within six months of another rite, the father may proceed if the families are living separately; in that case, no fault is incurred. 78 For women, the fruit of all rituals begins with the husband's lineage original: gotra; the rituals are conducted using the name of the mother-in-law and father-in-law. 79 In marriage works, for the installation of the family deity or for pregnancy rites, the purity of the woman is required; for other works, the purity of the groom is sought.
