The Five Sounds

It should be known that in the middle of that [period] 81

Between the end of the period and the positions of Mercury and Mars, in a year ruled by Mercury original: "budha-varṣe", death is certain. If there are two planet-killers graha-hantā: planets occupying specific houses or positions that designate the end of life at the beginning and the end, and Mars is joined with the end of Mercury’s period 82

In a malefic year pāpa-varṣa: a year governed by an inauspicious planet like Saturn or Mars with an excess of malefic influence, death occurs; it is not otherwise. If Mars is at the beginning or the end of the two stages of Mercury, or if Mars is joined with a malefic 83

When a malefic planet is transiting near the end of a period, death is without doubt. When the beginning and the end are joined with malefics in a year ruled by Venus, death [occurs] in the two... 84

In a malefic year, death will occur at the beginning or the end without doubt. If the body-sum piṇḍa: a calculated numerical total used to determine longevity is in the stage of origin original: "utpatti" and is influenced by the Moon original: "sauma", and if all factors are destroyed at the end, then death occurs 85

If Mars is in the two stages starting with birth, and Mercury is in the vulnerable point chidra: a "fissure" or weak point in the astrological chart indicating danger or in the middle of Mercury’s own period, and if the body-sum is in the origin, death [occurs] in that very year 86

When the Moon is positioned between two malefics, and Mars is at the end of the three... death occurs. With two Mercurys in the vulnerable point, and Mars in the two divisions of the birth-chart 87

If the form of Venus is at the end of Mercury’s period in the middle, death occurs; it is not otherwise. If, in a benefic year śubha-varṣa: a year governed by a lucky planet like Jupiter, there is an excess of benefic influence until the end of the planetary period 88

Then one should know it as a time of affliction kleśa: physical or mental suffering and hardship, but death is not a certainty. If there are many malefics in the malefic-half of the calculation, death will occur even in the three stages of Mercury 89
