The Nakshatras The 27 "Lunar Mansions" or star clusters the moon passes through. of Ashvini and Shatabhisha original: "Varuna," another name for the star Shatabhisha. are categorized as the Horse; Revati and Bharani are the Elephant. 7॥ Pushya and Krittika are the Goat; the Snake is associated with Rohini, and Mrigashira is the Deer. 8॥ Ardra and Mula are the Dog The OCR text suggests "Mahishya" (Buffalo), but traditional Jyotisha assigns the Dog to these stars; the scribe may have conflated these with the following verse.; Purva Phalguni and Magha are the Rat. The Cat is assigned to Ashlesha original: "Diti," a reference to the deity of the star. and Punarvasu. The two Uttaras Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Ashadha. belong to the Cow species. 9॥
The Buffalo is associated with Swati and Hasta; the Deer with Jyeshtha and Anuradha. These are the Yonis Yoni: literally "source" or "womb," referring to the instinctive biological/sexual temperament of a person based on their birth star. described here. One must consider their natural friendships and enmities. Specific instinctive rivalries include: the Cow and Tiger, the Goat and Lion, the Buffalo and Horse, the Cat and Rat, the Snake and Mongoose, and the Monkey and Dog. 11॥
Having carefully understood this through worldly observation and study, those who desire a successful outcome should always avoid these pairings—whether for a married couple or even for a King and his servant. 12॥
