The illustrious Josi Gangadhara, a man of renowned virtues and superintendent of the Academy of Sciences original: "Shastrashala-adhinatha". The Shastrashala was a traditional center for the study of the Shastras (sacred sciences) often under royal patronage., who acts in accordance with the commands of the Lord [of the region] whose name begins with the auspicious word "Mangala." His son, having corrected this book with great effort alongside various excellent scholars, now sends it forth.
original: "Siddhānta Kaustubha". As noted previously, this is a major astronomical work. The "Jewel" (Kaustubha) refers to the legendary gem worn by Vishnu, symbolizing the precious nature of this knowledge.
