The thirty parts original: "trishamsha" of the signs are declared in the seven houses; for the even signs, these are assigned to the Vasus a group of eight elemental deities, here representing specific planetary rulers of these divisions and others. Thus, the six categories of matter the Shadvarga system mentioned on the previous page have been declared in brief.
O Beloved, among the signs, some are known as "Night-signs." Some are "Day-signs." O Dear, the remaining signs are Back-rising original: "Prishthodaya"; signs that rise with their rear first, usually considered less auspicious in certain contexts. Those starting from the head are Head-rising original: "Shirshodaya", while Pisces original: "Meena" is known as Dual-rising original: "Ubhaya-sanjnaka"; rising with both ends.
Virgo, Gemini, and Cancer are to be known as strong at specific times. Capricorn, Cancer, and Pisces are those that dwell in the water. Scorpio original: "Keeta" is strong at night and is designated as a place of refuge.
A zodiac sign original: "Rashi" that is joined with its own Lord, or with Mercury original: "Jnya" or Jupiter original: "Guru", or is aspected by them, is known to be strong; any other is considered devoid of strength.
Aries, Taurus, Capricorn, Virgo, Cancer, and Pisces: these are the signs where the Sun and other planets attain their positions. O beautiful-faced one, listen to the degrees of Highest Exaltation original: "Paramocchaka":
The auspicious planets are in the seventh; Scorpio and others are remembered as strong at night.
The seventh sign from the exaltation point is the Debilitation original: "Nicha" sign. A planet in its exaltation has full strength, while in its debilitation, it is weak.
During the Northern Transit (Uttarayana), they are strong in the seventh position.

Those in the Southern Transit (Dakshinayana) and those that are Retrograde are known to be endowed with strength.
In the seventh house, the Son of the Sun Saturn is strong. In the tenth house, the Sun and the Son of the Earth Mars are strong. In the day, the Sun, Venus, and Jupiter are strong; the others are strong at night. Benefic planets are powerful during the Bright Fortnight original: "Shukla-paksha"; the waxing moon, while others are endowed with strength during the Dark Fortnight original: "Krishna-paksha"; the waning moon.
Quadrupeds (four-footed signs) are devoid of directional strength. Human signs are strong during the day; water-dwellers are strong during the twilights.
