In the ninth position, there is the gain of merit. original: "dharmalābha". This refers to the acquisition of spiritual or religious merit, often through righteous action or pilgrimage. In the tenth, the fulfillment of the heart's desire.
In the eleventh, all types of gain are achieved; however, in the twelfth, there is only loss. original: "hānirevaca". In Vedic astrology, the twelfth house is traditionally the house of expenditure and loss. [In this final position], disease, death, or defeat in battle [follows]; it is a journey from which one does not return. In marriage, the bride becomes a widow. Such are the fruits of these positions for the people.

For Aries and Scorpio?, the direction is the East. For Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, it is the South. original: "yāmyā". A common name for the South, referring to the direction of Yama, the lord of death.
For Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, the direction is the West. For Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, it is the North.
When the sign or the Moon is in front of the traveler, there is success in one's tasks. When it is to the right, it bestows good fortune. original: "dakṣiṇe". This term means both "South" and "Right." In the context of "front" and "back," it refers to the right-hand side of the person performing the action. One should know that death [awaits] if it is behind, and the loss of wealth if it is to the left.
