In the sky, he appears like a second solar disc, making the Mother of the World original: "Jagadambika" (Parvati) laugh with his unrestrained play. (1)
There was a scholar named Divakara His name literally means 'The Sun.', who I believe was like the sun itself in the science of calculations. Through his own accurately composed works, he revealed the universal form of the science of the stars. (2)
He had five sons who were equal to one another. In the scriptures of calculation, they were like five moons; in debating with great opponents, they were like lions; and in the performance of sacrificial rituals, they were like the five sacred fires. (3)
Of them, the eldest was named Krishna. He was a knower of flawless speech and a man of virtuous conduct in the world. (4)
Born after him was the younger brother Vishnu, who attained the highest rank among the assembly of wise scholars. His fame was perpetually manifested through the science of light original: "Jyotish-shastra" (astronomy/astrology) by his students and their students. Known to kings for his merits, he was a leader among the Brahmins. His explanations of the texts humbled even the Guru of the Gods Brihaspati, and he stripped away the pride of those born into greatness. (5)
There was also Mallari, the leader of the calculators astronomers who made his lineage famous. He was an invincible knower of other scriptures and a great teacher. Like a second Lord Mallari Shiva who subdues the masses of enemies, he was a clear speaker in the world and a knower of all the fundamental astronomical systems original: "Siddhanta". (6)
His younger brother was named Keshava, a moon to the ocean of joy for astronomers. Skilled in speech, he revived the world with the nectar of his words, a master of the fine arts. (7)
Now follows his younger brother, Vishvanatha, who through the grace of Lord Vishnu is a conqueror through merit alone. He is an expert in the play of the all-knowing astrologers, a "Lion among Men" original: "Nrisimha" who has mastered all branches of knowledge. (8)
There was Nilakantha, a knower of VedantaThe philosophical end-part of the Vedas., a leader in the codes of law and the six limbs of the Vedas, and a destroyer of the pride of others. He was the author of various works, a knower of the scriptures of the serpent-king original: "Phanipati," referring to Patanjali's grammar, and a resident of the great city of Kashi Modern Varanasi. This Nilakantha, devoted to the worship of the son of Shri Nilakantha, composed the Sanjna-tantra, which makes the difficult periods of planetary influence—both good and bad—easy to understand. (9)
Vishvanatha, the foremost of those who know planetary calculations, yet free from pride, resides in the village called Gola Modern Golgaon in Maharashtra on the banks of the Godavari river. For the perpetual benefit of the world, he has composed this new, flawless commentary in prose and verse on the Sanjna-tantra, to clarify its meaning and cut through the knots of difficulty for astrologers.
