Now he states the form of the sign Sagittarius:
Masculine, golden-hued, a mountain-dweller, even-rising, and very loud. It is strong during the day and rules the East. It is firm-bodied, dry original: "ruksha"; lacking in oiliness or luster, and yellow in color. It is a kingly sign of the Kshatriya warrior or ruling caste caste. It is of a hot, bilious nature Pitta. It is said to have little progeny and infrequent sexual union. It is dual-bodied, meaning it possesses both movable and fixed natures. It is two-footed, though specifically, it is two-footed in its first half and four-footed quadruped in its second half—as will be explained further. It is a fire sign, fierce and cruel.
The sign of Sagittarius original: "Dhanu" is masculine, golden, mountain-dwelling, even-rising, and loud-voiced. It is day-strong, rules the East, and is firm, dry, and yellow. It is a kingly, hot, bilious sign with little offspring, dual-bodied, two-footed, and a fierce fire sign. (10)
Now he states the form of the sign Capricorn:
Capricorn original: "Mriga" or "Makara" is movable, an Earth sign, and half-voiced. It rules the South original: "Yamasha"; the direction of Yama, lord of death. It is a feminine sign, tawny and dry. It dwells on auspicious ground and is cold in nature. It has little progeny and infrequent sexual union. It is of a windy nature Vata and is strong at night. In its first half, it is four-footed; in its second half, it is a water-dweller—this will be explained later. It is uneven-rising and of the Vaishya merchant or agriculturist caste caste. This concludes the verse. (11)
Now he states the form of the sign Aquarius:
Aquarius original: "Kumbha" is footless original: "apada"; likely referring to the image of the water pot, masculine, and strong during the middle of the day. It has moderate progeny. It is a fixed sign, variegated in color, and a forest-dweller. It is a wind sign. It is smooth, hot, and has a broken or "cut" voice. It is of the Shudra laborer or artisan caste caste, rules the West, and is uneven-rising. (12)
This sign Sagittarius is to be known as having two colors: gold and yellow. (10) The sign Capricorn original: "Mriga" is to be known thus: it is "movable" by name. It is an Earth sign with "half-sound" or moderate voice. It rules the Southern direction. It is a feminine sign, tawny-colored, and dry (lacking luster). It is auspicious, gentle, a dweller of the earth, and cold in temperament. It has little offspring and infrequent union. It is of a windy nature and strong at night. In the first half of the sign, it is understood to be four-footed, while the second half is a water-dweller, as will be noted later. It rises unevenly and is of the Vaishya caste. This concludes the verse. (11) The sign Aquarius is to be known thus: it is footless, a masculine sign, and strong during the day...
