The dwellings of Jupiter are treasure-houses, Peepal trees, temples, and the residences of the twice-born original: "dvija"; referring to the upper three castes, particularly Brahmins, who have undergone the sacred thread ceremony; his direction is the North-East Ishanya|The direction governed by Ishana (Shiva), considered the most auspicious corner. || 16 ||
The South-East Agneya|The direction of the fire god, Agni is the direction of Venus, and his places are the streets where courtesans live, harems, and bedrooms.
The West Varuna|The direction governed by Varuna, the god of the oceans is the direction of Saturn, and his dwellings are the houses of the low-born and filthy places.
Anthills, snake holes, and dark pits are the places associated with the shadow planet Ketu original: "Shikhi"; a name for the descending lunar node, Ketu. || 17 ||
Followers of Shiva, physicians, kings, performers of Vedic sacrifices, and ministers are associated with the Sun. So too are the tiger, the deer, and the Chakravaka bird.
Those who know the scriptures, washermen, and manual laborers are associated with the Moon. So too are the rabbit, the deer, the crane, and the Chakora bird. || 18 ||
Mars is associated with the kitchen, those who carry weapons, and goldsmiths.
Goats, roosters, jackals, monkeys, vultures, and thieves are also governed by Mars. |
