These theories attract many followers, and their respective schools engage in lively and sometimes fierce debates regarding the validity and superiority of their founders' ideas. However, this book will have little to say about these specific theories or the schools built upon them. It is enough for us to recognize the existence of these phenomena: observable events or facts, specifically those that are remarkable or difficult to explain. and the fact that there is a clear area of mental activity that we have named "The Inner Consciousness."
Accepting these phenomena as proven truths, we will proceed to examine how they manifest, their apparent laws, and the methods by which one may use this mental activity to their advantage. We will leave the abstract theories to the theorists and discussions to those who enjoy such mental exercises. For our part, we are tired of such debates and prefer to focus on observed facts and the practical question of "how to get results." We are inclined to agree with the writer who observed: "Theories are merely giant soap bubbles with which the grown-up children of science amuse themselves." We also look with favor upon the lines of the poet who said:
"The nearer to the practical men keep—
The less they deal in vague and abstract things—"
