...assigns its own property. Wherefore we say that the sixteen figures In geomancy, there are 16 possible arrangements of single and double dots are sixteen naturally; these signify the beginning and the end of things from which, being joined together, they signify the whole body and soul. Therefore, since each figure signifies its own member original: "mbrū"; referring to a body part, take the strength of the name from the exercise: the first [figure corresponds to] the head, the second the throat, and so on down to the feet. In these things, since every member is either good or bad in that same year, recognize the nature and property of each figure. Just as in every duality of associated figures through their places—where one comes out in the first, another in the second, and so on for the rest of the associated figures—it is according to them that you must recognize the predictions of the figures, so that you may be able to judge the state of the body and its members. Therefore, if you wish to foreknow the condition of the head, look to the first figure; for the throat, the second, and so on.
Note that in every question formed, the four angles The "Angles" are the four most powerful houses in a chart: the 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th must always be examined, as must all the remaining parts, and how the figures in those places are friendly to one another by reason of the elements, or by reason of the signs and planets. One must see where one figure is better or worse than the others, whether in goodness or malice, strength or weakness. There is a greater number in the sixteen figures that form the circle of the heavens, and through them, for the witnesses and the judge. It is true that the witnesses and the judge must be well examined with full intention, for the timing depends upon it. It is established that the Right Witness original: "testz dextr̄"; the figure representing the person asking the question signifies the petitioner, while the Left Witness original: "testz sinister"; the figure representing the matter or person asked about signifies the power of the matter sought. The Judge indicates the essence of the matter—namely, whether the thing sought will come to pass, and whether it will happen quickly or slowly. Judgment must be given according to the form and the better or worse state of the question formed.
We say because they are like the four columns in the four natural structures upon which everything stands; in them resides the greatest power, strength, and stability of every single thing. If it is asked why two witnesses are required in every question, we say that since each part testifies? through its own witness, it shows by its own power what its nature is regarding that about which the question is made. If it is asked why the Judge is so strongly required in every question, they say it is because there is no difference between the petitioner and the thing requested, and since one part is generated from the other part, the Judge holds the place that terminates and defines all that is, and all that arises from the conflict between both parts—namely, the petitioner and the matter of the question.
Note that the location of the houses of the figures signifies the same thing; whence there is a difference. Certain figures are stronger because they are naturally in the four "exits" likely referring to the four cardinal directions or 'angles': four are Angles, four are Succedents houses that "follow" the angles: 2, 5, 8, 11, and four are Cadents houses that "fall away" from the angles: 3, 6, 9, 12. If it is asked which places are the Angles, we say the 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th; in these places, the figures are said to be stronger than all others. But if a strong figure is required in those places, it is said to be...
