Figures are of certain types: some are entering original: "intrantes" and some are "great" likely meaning significant or stable according to each thing about which a question is formed; a brief and clear example of all these is given here.
Note that of the figures, some are good, some are bad, and some are of middling quality. In their goodness and malice, some are entering, some are exiting original: "exeuntes", some are benevolent, and some are malevolent; some are fortunate and some are unfortunate; some are strong and some are weak. All of this is shown above in the table of figures.
Note It should be known that every entering figure is good and signifies an abundance of things, namely of wheat, barley, possessions, and various goods. Every exiting figure is bad, except for Joy original: "leticia", the geomantic figure Laetitia, which is a good figure. It is the figure of Jupiter original: "iouis" and it is said that by the grace of God, it is an exception among the class of exiting figures, which are generally [bad] compared to all entering figures.
Whence, entering figures signify the arrival of things and increases in good, bringing good from the outside into the house, and the petitioner will obtain what they lack. But exiting figures diminish the good coming to the house; they carry it outside and bear away the good that was coming.
Therefore, it must be said that every figure has a nature according to the elements original: "genij elementorum", and there is no root [of agreement] between enemies, such as a figure of Water versus a figure of Fire, or a figure of Earth versus a figure of Air, as there is an open incompatibility of nature. And for a similar reason, this must be said regarding all figures held in relation to the matter being asked.
Note And we say that an entering figure is one that has more points at the top or in its middle than it has at its ends Geomantic figures are made of four lines of one or two dots; "entering" figures typically have more dots in the top two lines, as for example here: :.
General Rule Every entering figure is a good sign because it signifies entry, and every exiting figure is a bad sign because it signifies exit. However, there are neutral figures which are neither [inherently] entering nor exiting. In a judgment, there are three [such figures] which sometimes signify entry and sometimes exit, according to their "society" The "Company" (societas) refers to how a figure relates to the one next to it in the geomantic chart and where they are located. For a cause may happen to two figures—whether fortunate or unfortunate, good or bad—based on the place, the society, and the aspect A term borrowed from astrology referring to the geometric relationship between positions of all the figures. Therefore, one must look at
Regarding the affinity of the houses the hour, the goodness, and the malice of both the places the "houses" or positions in the chart and the figures, just as one must judge whether it is good or bad. For if a good figure is found in a good place, then the sign is perfect and honorable. But if a good figure is in a bad place, then the figure loses some of its goodness because of the accidental malice of the place; thus the place overcomes the good figure because it is [unsuitable]. We say the same regarding a bad figure in a good place. But if the place is good and the figure is good, then that good is perfect in every way. Likewise, regarding those that are...
