Note that the first authors who discovered this art, with a certain facility and out of a great natural genius, took the unformed figures of the stars of the heaven. They did not take all of them—especially those in the higher circles—because of the extreme confusion of their signs. Instead, they took only some of those found within the zodiacal circle, which is the path of the sun. Therefore, the figures of this art are not simple points made at the whim of the practitioners; rather, they arise from the voice of nature and from the forms of the stars in the higher heavens to this state of figuring. Just as the stars of heaven, the signs of the zodiac, and the four elements are all arranged in the hour of birth, these figures are made in the likeness and form of the celestial bodies. Thus, although they may often appear to be points, they are not simple points but ought to be regarded as stars. They exist in the likeness of the stars of heaven, which are like fixed points in the sky itself, unlike our points marked on paper or parchment by an abacus a tool for calculation or drawing; yet they possess the power of signifying that which governs the entire day based on the question that is formed.
Therefore, this is a good figure:

Fortuna Minor (Lesser Fortune)
is a bad figure because its element is Fire, which is consumptive; it is the fall of the Sun, the exaltation of Saturn, and the dominion [of Mars].

Puella (The Girl)
is a good figure because its element is Air, it is the house of Venus, the body of Jupiter in retrograde, and the exaltation of the Moon. Therefore, this:

Amissio (Loss)
is a bad figure because it is Saturn in retrograde, the fall of the Moon, the sign of Scorpio, and the house of Mars. Therefore, this...
