This figure is bad; what follows is the table original: "mare," literally 'sea,' likely referring to a large chart or 'map' to read the rulers of the houses. The heavens naturally possess twelve equal parts, which are said to contain the locations of the planets. The measure of these planetary houses These are the twelve divisions of the sky used in astrology and geomancy to represent different areas of life, such as wealth, health, or travel is determined by the twelve signs of the zodiac through their centers. In these twelve parts, each one is called a "sign," and thus every location in the heavens—and every moment in time—has its own house. Just as a sign holds a place as a dwelling or house, the planets are like the lords and rulers of these houses. Regarding the houses themselves, they are of equal size, each consisting of thirty degrees original: "xxx [gradus]" and no more. However, they are distinguished by the different qualities of the elements Earth, Air, Fire, and Water, which define each sign in a special way. Therefore, just as there is a great difference between the elements—where one is better or worse than another—so it is with the houses of heaven.
¶ For this reason, it should be known that some houses of heaven are good, some are just beginning original: "inchoatis," meaning preparatory or mediocre, and some are excellent. Conversely, among them, some are bad, others worse, and others the worst of all. In every house, there are certain stars noted by the wise from which geomantic figures The 16 patterns of dots used in this divination system are formed. The better houses are the 3rd and the 5th; the best are the 10th and the 11th. The bad houses are namely the 2nd, 6th, 8th, and 12th. It should be noted that the 1st, 11th, 10th, 9th, and 8th belong to the Midheaven original: "medium celi," the highest point of the sky and the left part of the chart. The first house is the ruler and is called the Ascendant The house rising on the eastern horizon at the time of the reading. The other figures follow the right side of the heavens, and the 7th house is called the opposite of the Ascendant. Among those above, the 6th is bad, the 8th is worse, and the 12th is the worst. This must be understood as the quality of the place itself, which is declared through the figure placed within it. Whether the figure is praised or blamed depends entirely on the divine nature of the house, according to whether it is good or bad.
This is the opinion of many, and it is also mine: ¶ The Houses that are good are the 1st, 5th, 10th, and 11th. The bad houses are the 6th, 12th, 8th, and 2nd. The mediocre ones are the 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 9th. Regarding the primary houses: the 1st is Eastern orientalis, the 7th is Western occidentalis, the 10th is Southern meridionalis, and the 4th is Northern septentrionalis. Thus, just as the 7th is the degree of the 1st, so the 3rd is the degree of the 10th and 9th in combination. And the usefulness of these things for the body is great for judging well. Since in geomancy there are good, bad, and mediocre houses, if a good figure is found in a good house, then it signifies something good and gives a good testimony for whatever matter is signified in that place. Conversely, if a bad figure is in a bad place, it indicates a poor outcome. The truth is known by contrast: when a good figure is in a bad place (like a bad house) or when a bad figure is found in a good house. Therefore, a good figure found in a good house doubles the positive meaning.
