3. Because it has now graciously pleased the dear God to bring me—an unworthy little worm A common historical expression of humility in mystical writing, acknowledging one's smallness before the vastness of the Divine.—to the knowledge of myself, I have not buried this in my own self-hoodoriginal: "Eigenheit"; in this context, it refers to the ego or the state of being spiritually "turned inward" toward oneself rather than toward God.. Instead, I wish to share it for the benefit of whoever may find delight in it, and to present these figures in the human image, so that one or another who still thinks he can look upon and find God externally, beyond the stars original: "über dem Gestirne"; referring to the "astral" or "sidereal" realm which governs the physical and rational world but is not the ultimate divine source., might behold himself in the spirit.

4. For in my youth, I also strove greatly for this, because I read in Holy Scripture that Moses, Joshua, David, and other holy men spoke with God. I would walk alone in the field for half a day at a time and look at the heavens, but I could not reach my goal.

5. Until the gracious God finally appeared to me inwardly, face to face, and opened His heaven within me, and spoke with my soul original: "entaliter und mentaliter"; essentially and spiritually, mouth to mouth. This refreshed me in no small measure and made me very fiery in my reciprocal love for my dearest Jesus, so that I bound myself to Him with body, soul, and spirit, never more to depart from Him or to turn away in suffering and tribulation, firmly trusting that He will never take His Spirit from me, nor allow me to be torn away from Him.
