Charles Ravaisson-Mollien (1848–1919) was a French librarian and scholar famous for his pioneering work in photographing and transcribing Leonardo da Vinci's manuscripts at the Institut de France.

Permit me to offer You this small work

which has no other merit than its devotion to Leonardo,

and which would have been impossible without the prodigious

deciphering that you accomplished, before

Ludwig published the Vatican Codex; before

Richter gave his Literary Works; before

the Academy of the Lincei began the edition of the

Atlantic Codex, before Beltrami edited the

Trivulzio manuscript, before Sabaknickoff

revealed the treasures of Windsor, of the British

original: "Bristih" - the translator has corrected the original typographical error in the source text.
