Leonardo’s anatomical studies are categorized into different groups; "Folio Series A" (Fogli A) focuses largely on the skeletal and muscular systems, created around 1510–1511.

Teodoro Sabachnikoff (1867–1912) was a Russian patron of the arts who financed these high-quality facsimile editions to make Leonardo's work accessible to scholars.

Piumati was a specialized scholar tasked with deciphering and transcribing Leonardo’s unique "mirror writing"—script written from right to left.
