The reproduction of each page is preceded by a label divided into two parts: one indicating the sequence number under which the front recto: the right-hand page of an open book or the front of a loose sheet or the back verso: the left-hand page of an open book or the back of a loose sheet of a leaf is published; the other being reserved for the classification of subjects unrelated to the Thorax and the Abdomen. Leonardo often mixed different subjects—such as geometry or engineering—on the same page as his anatomical drawings.
