judgment. But I say to you: whoever puts away his wife (except it be for sexual immorality) causes her to commit adultery. And whoever marries her that is divorced commits adultery.
¶ Again, you have heard how it was said to them of old time, "You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oath to God." But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God's seat; nor yet by the earth, for it is his footstool; neither by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great king. Neither shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But your speech shall be, "Yes, yes; no, no." For whatever is more than that comes of evil.
¶ You have heard how it is said, "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth." But I say to you, that you do not resist wrong. But if a man gives you a blow on your right cheek, turn to him the other. And if any man will sue you at the law and take your coat from you, let him have your cloak also. And whoever will compel you to go a mile, go with him two. Whenever, therefore, you give your alms, you shall not make a trumpet to be blown before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, to be praised by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. But when you give your alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand does, so that your alms may be secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, shall reward you openly.

Truly I say to you, they have their reward. But when you pray, enter into your room, and shut your door to you, and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, shall reward you openly.
¶ But when you pray, do not babble much, as the
