¶ When they persecute you in one city, flee into another. I tell you for a truth, you shall not finish all the cities of Israel until the Son of Man has come. The disciple is not above his master, nor yet the servant above his lord. It is enough for the disciple to be like his master, and that the servant be like his lord. If they have called the lord of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call those of his household so? Therefore, do not fear them.
¶ There is nothing so secret that shall not be opened, and nothing so hidden that shall not be known.
¶ What I tell you in darkness, that speak in the light. And what you hear in the ear, that preach on the housetops.
¶ And do not fear those who kill the body and are not able to kill the soul. But rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And none of them shall fall to the ground without your Father. And now all the hairs of your head are numbered. Therefore do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows.
¶ Whoever therefore acknowledges me before men, him will I acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in heaven.
¶ Do not think that I have come to send peace into the earth. I did not come to send peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man at variance
against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a man's foes shall be those of his own household.
¶ He who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me. And he who loves his son or daughter more than me is not fit for me. And he who does not take his cross and follow me is not fit for me. He who finds his life shall lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake shall find it.
¶ He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me. He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive the reward of a righteous man. And whoever shall give to one of these little ones a cup of cold water only to drink, in the name of a disciple, I tell you for a truth, he shall not lose his reward.
And it came to pass when Jesus had ended his precepts to his disciples, he departed from there to preach and teach in their cities.
¶ When John, being in prison, heard the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said to him, "Are you he who should come, or shall we look for another?"
