...are raised up again, and the gospel is preached to the poor. And happy is he who is not offended by me.
As they departed, Jesus began to speak to the people concerning John. "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? Did you go out to see a reed waving with the wind? Or what did you go out to see? Did you go to see a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. But what did you go out to see? Did you go out to see a prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. For this is he of whom it is written: 'Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.'
Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist. Notwithstanding, he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the time of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and those who use violence take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until the time of John. Nevertheless, I say to you: it shall be easier for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, which are lifted up to heaven, shall be thrust down to hell. For if the miracles which have been done in you had been shown in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. Nevertheless, I say to you: it shall be easier for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you."
¶ Then Jesus answered and said: "I praise you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to babes; even so, Father, for so it pleased you. All things are given to me by my Father. And no man knows the Son but the Father; neither does any man know the Father except the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.
¶ Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
¶ At that time, Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the grainfields, and his disciples were hungry,
