1 Then Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil. 2 * And having fasted forty days and forty nights, he then grew hungry. 3 * And the tempter approached and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, speak so that these stones become bread." 4 * He answered and said, "It is written: 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God.'" Jesus is quoting Deuteronomy 8:3, emphasizing spiritual nourishment over physical hunger. 5 * Then the devil took him and led him to the holy city original: "քաղաքն սուրբ" (the holy city), referring to Jerusalem., and placed him on the pinnacle pinnacle: the highest point or wing of the Temple complex of the temple, 6 * and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here; for it is written: 'He has commanded his angels concerning you,' and 'on their hands they will lift you up, so that you do not ever strike your foot against a stone.'" 7 * Jesus said to him again, "It is written: 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.'" 8 * Again, the devil took him and led him to an exceedingly high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, 9 * and said to him, "All this I will give to you, if you fall down and worship me." 10 * Then Jesus said to him, "Go behind me, Satan; for it is written: 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'" 11 * Then the devil left him; and behold, angels approached and were serving him. 12 * And when Jesus heard that John had been delivered original: "մատնեցաւ" (delivered/betrayed), referring to John the Baptist's arrest by Herod., he departed and went to Galilee. 13 * And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum by the seaside, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali Two of the twelve tribes of Israel; these territories were in the northern part of the country.. 14 * So that the word might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: 15 * "The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the way of the sea beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles A region known for its diverse population of Jews and non-Jews (Gentiles).— 16 * The people who sat in darkness saw a great light; and to those who sat in the land and shadow of death, light dawned upon them." 17 * From that time Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." 18 * While Jesus was walking by the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter...
