Large initial TThe production of this volume, completing the task begun by the Oxford University Press with the 1911 publication of the parts of the Codex containing the New Testament, was made possible by the enterprise and devotion of the editors, and by the generosity of an anonymous benefactor who, in 1913, made a very liberal gift to the British Academy for this purpose. This contribution would have covered more than half of the estimated cost of the work. The war and its consequences have increased the cost and delayed the completion of the project.
The Delegates of the Press are confident that biblical scholars throughout the world will join them in expressing gratitude to the British Academy and its generous friend.
