Chapter - 1
original Sanskrit: "Samyag-darśana-jñāna-cāritrāṇi mokṣamārgaḥ"
[ Right vision, knowledge, and conduct ] Right vision often called right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct—these three together constitute the [ path to liberation ], which is to say, they are the means to attain spiritual freedom.
Right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct (together) constitute the path to liberation.
original Sanskrit: "Tattvārtha-śraddhānaṃ samyag-darśanam"
[ Belief in the nature of reality ] To have faith in the true nature of substances—such as the soul jīvaThe conscious living principle or soul. and other fundamental entities—is [ right vision ].
Belief in substances ascertained as they are is right faith.
original Sanskrit: "Tan-nisargād-adhigamād-vā"
[ That ] right vision arises [ naturally ] through one's own internal disposition [ or ] it is produced [ through instruction ] by the teachings of others.
