original Sanskrit: "Kṣayopaśamanimittaḥ ṣadvikalpaḥ śeṣāṇām"
[ Arising from destruction-cum-subsidence ] Clairvoyance that arises from the partial removal and partial suppression of karmic veils [ is of six kinds ]: following, non-following, increasing, decreasing, steady, and unsteady. These six variations [ belong to the rest ]—meaning they occur in human beings and animals.
Unlike the "birth-based" clairvoyance of gods and hell-beings mentioned on the previous page, this type of clairvoyance is earned through spiritual merit. The six types describe how the ability behaves: whether it follows the person to a new location, grows stronger, or remains unstable.
Clairvoyance arising from the lifting of the veil is of six kinds. It is acquired by the rest (namely human beings and animals).
original Sanskrit: "Ṛjuvipulamatī manaḥparyayaḥ"
[ Telepathy ] The knowledge of the thoughts of others [ is of two types: simple and expansive ]. Rjumati (straight/simple) and Vipulmati (complex/expansive) are its two forms.
Rjumati and vipulmati are the two kinds of telepathy (manahparyaya).
original Sanskrit: "Viśuddhyapratipātābhyāṃ tadviseṣaḥ"
[ Through purity and non-decline ] Based on the purity of the soul's internal state and non-decline—meaning the knowledge is not lost before attaining Omniscience—[ is the distinction between them ]. These two factors create the difference between the "simple" and "expansive" forms of telepathy.
Vipulmati is considered superior because it is "purer" (more detailed) and "non-declining," meaning once a monk attains this level of telepathy, he will certainly progress to full enlightenment without losing this ability.
