original: "W. Rothenstein"
This pencil sketch depicts the Bengali poet, philosopher, and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941). It was drawn by the British artist Sir William Rothenstein (1872–1945) during Tagore's landmark 1912 visit to London. Rothenstein's support was instrumental in introducing Tagore’s poetry to Western audiences, leading to the publication of Gitanjali later that year.
