This document is a phonetic dictionary. In ancient China, scholars used these to find the correct pronunciation, meaning, and poetic usage of characters. Pronunciation is often given using the "Fanqie" method: two characters are provided, where the first gives the initial sound and the second gives the rhyme and tone.
