The table above charts the "Twelve Stages of Life" (Shi'er Zhangsheng) for the Five Elements. Specifically, it lists the peaks (Prosperity), the points of storage or burial (Repository), and the points of total energetic depletion (Exhaustion). The right-hand side of the table identifies specific "Melodic Element" (Nayin) combinations—the 60-year cycle of Stem-Branch pillars—and classifies them by their internal energetic health, such as "Self-Birth" or "Self-Death."
Four Prosperities (Si Wang): The points in the cycle where an element's energy is at its absolute maximum.
Four Repositories (Si Ku): Also known as "Graves," these are the branches where an element's energy is contained or buried, representing potential or hidden strength.
Four Exhaustions (Si Jue): The stage where the element's energy has completely vanished before beginning a new cycle.
Melodic Elements (Nayin): A complex system where each of the 60 pairs of Stems and Branches (like Xin-Si or Jia-Shen) is assigned one of the Five Elements, regardless of the individual characters' basic properties.
