As stated above, the blessings and celebrations are many, while the thoughts are few. I have scolded servants and lightheartedly damaged small things in the Precept Chamber. I have deceived people to their faces and hoped for the smallest of profits. All day long without change, I see that this is not a common matter. I, a humble official, declare: The requests for turning toward the light in previous days were not just one but numbered in the tens of thousands. Breaking the fast and breaking the precepts, snatching from the public and snatching ●●?.
Blessing vows are entrusted like this; I have fully possessed these karmas in this life, whether right or wrong, whether teaching others or rejoicing in what I have seen and heard. Now, taking advantage of this ritual feast, the assembly of monks, with pure hearts, collectively presents this declaration on your behalf.
Through the feast, we await repentance and thanks. We only wish that within the Dharma-heart, all will be pardoned and praised. For the sake of those killed, we pray for purity and that sins be extinguished. We only wish for the cessation of suffering, and by requesting the removal of darkness through setting up this feast—a superior canopy—the deceased's "good field" field of merit will be strictly prepared. May the soul of the deceased take great strides and desire to ascend to the upper realms of the spirit, proclaimed in the dawning sky.
