original: "三才圖會" (Sancai Tuhui). The "Three Powers" refers to the fundamental triad of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity, which formed the basis of traditional Chinese cosmology and the organization of all knowledge.
This work is a massive, comprehensive encyclopedia compiled during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) by the scholar-officials Wang Qi and his son Wang Siyi. It is celebrated for its extensive woodblock illustrations that accompany descriptions of everything from celestial phenomena and geography to portraits of historical figures and biological species.
