A woodblock botanical illustration of the Hanzhimao plant. The plant is depicted with a thick, fleshy root that has a distinct anthropomorphic form, resembling a human figure from the waist down. A single vertical stem emerges from the top of the root. This stem bears several pairs of small, serrated or pinnate leaves arranged oppositely. At the top, the stem splits into three stalks, each supporting a single five-petaled star-shaped flower. The entire illustration is contained within a rectangular double-line border.
