Paulownia Tong Paulownia tree

A traditional Chinese woodcut illustration of a tree. The character for "Paulownia" Tong is printed at the top center. The tree is depicted with a thick, textured trunk and several branches. The leaves are large, broad, and palmately lobed. At the ends of two branches, bell-shaped or trumpet-shaped flowers are visible. The ground at the base of the tree is rendered with stylized, swirling lines representing earth or roots.
