Collection of Man, Part One?
Volume Lower, Part One
A traditional Chinese woodcut botanical illustration of a silk tree, known as "Hehuan". The illustration shows a single tree with a trunk that curves and then bifurcates into two main upward-extending branches. The foliage is rendered as dense, feathery clusters of small leaves, characteristic of the species' bipinnate compound leaves. The tree is depicted growing from a small mound of earth indicated by fine horizontal lines and tufts of grass.
