original: "Sancai Tuhui" (三才圖會). This is the title of a monumental pictorial encyclopedia compiled by the scholar Wang Qi and his son Wang Siyi during the Ming Dynasty, first published in 1609. The work is famous for its vast collection of illustrations covering all aspects of knowledge known at the time.
Three Realms (Sancai): A traditional Chinese philosophical concept referring to the three components of the universe: Heaven, Earth, and Humanity. The encyclopedia is organized into these three overarching categories.
