Shence Gate The "Divine Strategy" Gate, located in the northeast.
Jinchuan Gate
Zhong Mountain original: "Zhongshan." Today known as Purple Mountain, it dominates the landscape to the east of the city and houses the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum.
Timber Tax Office original: "Choufen Chang." A customs station located near the river to collect taxes on timber and bamboo rafts entering the capital.
Longjiang Pass original: "Longjiang Guan." A vital customs and defense post on the Yangtze River.
Longjiang Post Station original: "Longjiang Yi." A major hub for government couriers and officials traveling by the water network.
North Military Police Office original: "Bei Bingma Si." One of the five police bureaus responsible for maintaining order, fire safety, and street patrolling in the northern district.
Silk Bureau original: "Chouliao Ju." A state-run workshop or warehouse dedicated to providing silk and textiles for official use.
Rear Garrison of the Capital Defense
Front Garrison of the Capital Defense original: "Liushou Houwei" and "Liushou Qianwei." Part of the elite permanent garrison stationed to protect the secondary capital.
Various Garrisons original: "Ge Wei." Referring to the numerous military units stationed throughout the city's perimeter.
Yifeng Gate
Central Taoist Registry original: "Daolu Si." The government department responsible for the licensing and regulation of Taoist priests and temples.
Zhongzheng Treasury original: "Zhongzheng Ku." An imperial warehouse for storing valuable goods or tax revenues.
Shangyuan County Office The northern half of Nanjing was governed by Shangyuan County.

Yingtian Prefecture Headquarters The seat of the Prefect, who oversaw the entire metropolitan region of Nanjing.
The Mint original: "Baoyuan Ju." Literally the "Bureau of the Source of Treasure," this was the state foundry for casting copper coins.
Charity Hospital original: "Yihui Yuan." A state-funded medical facility providing care for the indigent and those without families.
Examination Hall original: "Gongyuan." The massive complex where scholars sat for the provincial civil service examinations, a cornerstone of Ming society.
Qingliang Gate Named for the nearby Qingliang Hill.
Jiangning County Office The southern half of Nanjing was governed by Jiangning County; the two counties shared the city as their administrative seat.
Shicheng Gate The "Stone City" Gate, located near the site of the ancient Han-era fortifications.
Sanshan Gate The "Three Mountains" Gate, a key entry point for trade from the Yangtze.
Inspection Office original: "Xunjian Si." A small local office for monitoring travelers and preventing smuggling.
Jubao Gate original: "Jubao Men," or "Gate of Gathering Treasures." Now known as Zhonghua Gate, it remains one of the largest and most complex barbicans in the world.
Tax Office original: "Xuanke Si." Responsible for the collection of commercial and marketplace taxes.
Vice-Prefect original: "Tongzhi." The deputy official of the Yingtian Prefecture.

Shangyuan County
