The title "San Cai Tu Hui" literally translates to "A Collection of Illustrations of the Three Powers." In traditional Chinese philosophy, the "Three Powers" or "Three Realms" refer to Heaven, Earth, and Humanity, signifying a desire to categorize and depict all knowledge within the universe. Compiled by the scholar Wang Qi and his son Wang Siyi, this work was first published around 1609 and contains a vast array of woodblock illustrations covering everything from astronomy and geography to biology and human history.
