original: "三才圖會" (Sancai Tuhui). The "Three Powers" (sancai) refers to the three essential components of the universe in Chinese philosophy: Heaven, Earth, and Humanity. This massive encyclopedia, compiled by Wang Qi and his son Wang Siyi and published around 1609 during the Ming Dynasty, represents an ambitious attempt to categorize all human knowledge through both text and detailed woodcut illustrations.
