Original title: Sancai Tuhui (三才圖會). The "Three Powers" (Sancai) refers to the foundational triad of the universe in Chinese philosophy: Heaven, Earth, and Humanity. This work is a massive leishu—a category of Chinese reference books often translated as "encyclopedia"—compiled by the scholars Wang Qi and his son Wang Siyi. Completed in 1607 and published in 1609, it covers everything from celestial bodies and geography to portraits of historical figures and biological species.
