This work is a massive leishu—a category of Chinese reference books often translated as "encyclopedia"—compiled by the scholars Wang Qi and his son Wang Siyi. Completed in 1607 and published in 1609, it covers everything from celestial bodies and geography to portraits of historical figures and biological species.
