In our current dynasty original: 國朝 Guócháo; referring here to the Ming Dynasty regulations, jewelry original: 首飾 Shǒushì is permitted to be made of gilded silver. Earrings may be crafted using gold and pearls, while bracelets and bangles original: 釧鐲 Chuànzhuó must be made of silver.
For clothing, light-colored round-collared gowns original: 團衫 Tuánshān are permitted. These may be made from heavy silk, fine damask, gauze, pongee, or thin silk original: 紵絲綾羅紬絹; a comprehensive list of silk textiles allowed for commoner use, ranging from sturdy ramie-silk blends to delicate gauzes.
As for entertainers original: 樂妓 Yuèjì; professional female musicians and performers, they are required to wear a crown of translucent horn original: 明角冠 Míngjiǎoguàn; headwear made from shaved, polished animal horn that allowed light to pass through and a black long jacket original: 皂褙子 Zàobèizi; a traditional loose-fitting outer garment with parallel collars. They are not permitted to dress in the same fashion as commoners original: 庶民 Shùmín; the ordinary populace, intended here to maintain a visual distinction between social classes and "respectable" versus "entertaining" professions.
