The term Three Realms original: "三才" (Sancai) refers to the traditional Chinese philosophical triad of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity. The work aims to illustrate and categorize all known things within these three spheres, ranging from celestial bodies and geography to human history and biology.
This specific volume is preserved in the xianzhuang binding style, which involves a "stab-stitch" method where thread is sewn through the spine of the paper stack.
