The King, dressed in official court robes original: "gong fu," the formal attire required for state and ritual functions., stands below the primary staircase, aligned with the eastern wall and facing west. The various royal relatives also wear official court robes; those not entitled to such robes wear their standard formal attire. They stand to the southeast of the water jar and basin, facing north, with the most senior members positioned further north. Those of the highest honor wait in a separate chamber.
The Usher, wearing official court robes, stands inside the gate on the east side of the path, facing north. The Prince to be capped In every capping ceremony, the garments must be fully prepared. The Prince’s person is adorned with precious ornaments and silks that resemble jade; this follows the ancient regulations. stands inside the inner chamber, facing south. The Attendants Those who will hold the ritual caps, wearing official court robes stand inside the chamber, east of the door, facing west.
The Guest of Honor and his Assistant Capper emerge from their waiting quarters and stand to the west of the gate. The Assistant Capper stands slightly back; both face east, with the senior positioned to the north. The Usher advances to the King’s left, faces north to receive his command, and then goes out to stand to the east of the gate. Facing west, the Usher says: "I venture to ask the purpose of your visit."
The Guest of Honor replies: "The son of [Name] has reached his auspicious ceremony term: "jia li," a joyful or auspicious rite, here referring specifically to the transition to adulthood.; I have been commanded to assist in this matter."
The Usher returns inside to inform the King. The King then meets the Guest outside the main gate, on the east side, facing west. The King bows twice, and the Guest returns the bow. In all instances where the King and Guest exchange bows or salutes, the Masters of Ceremonies lead and guide them. Finally, the King salutes the Assistant Capper.
