original: "三才圖會" (Sancai Tuhui). The term "Three Realms" or "Three Powers" refers to the traditional Chinese cosmological triad of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity, representing the entirety of the universe.
This work is a foundational encyclopedia known in Chinese as "leishu," a reference work that categorizes knowledge by topic compiled during the Ming Dynasty. It was the lifework of the scholar Wang Qi and his son Wang Siyi, completed around 1609. The collection is celebrated for its vast array of illustrations, which provide a visual record of 17th-century knowledge regarding subjects ranging from celestial bodies and mythical creatures to historical figures and daily tools.
