Records of Divination: Divination for Military Maneuvers using the Hidden Oracles
original: 遁甲 (Dunjia). The "Hidden Oracles" or "Hidden Stem" is a sophisticated form of Chinese metaphysics used historically for military strategy and selecting auspicious times and directions.
Click the teeth twelve times original: 齒十二 (chi shi'er). A common Taoist ritual practice to concentrate the spirit and signal the start of a rite. and silently recite the incantation while focusing on the objective you seek. Then, turn your body so your back is toward the direction of the Prosperous Breath. original: 旺氣 (wang qi). This refers to the direction from which the vital energy of the current season is flowing.
The Divine Invocation says: "On this [Year, Month, Day, and Hour], I petition the Father and Mother of Heaven and Earth, the spirits of the Six Jia original: 六甲. Six protective deities of the time cycle. and the Six Xun, the Twelve Hourly Spirits, the Azure Dragon, the Peng Star, the Bright Hall, the Heavenly Jade Maiden, and the Spirits of the Six Wu who Hide the Form. original: 六戊藏形之神. Deities invoked to grant invisibility or concealment from enemies. I who love the arts of long life, who march without picking a lucky day and depart without picking a lucky time:
Now I wish to travel to [specific location] for the purpose of [specific task]. Desiring the favor of the Great Spirits, I strictly follow the celestial patterns, draw the array upon the ground, and lay out the configuration. I exit the Heaven’s Gate, enter the Earth’s Door, close the Golden Gate, and ride with the Jade Maiden. The "Gate," "Door," and "Gate" here refer to specific auspicious directions within the Dunjia compass grid.
I respectfully invite the Jade Maiden, the Azure Dragon, the Vermilion Bird, the White Tiger, the Black Tortoise, the Hooked Array, the Six Harmonies, These represent the deities of the cardinal directions and celestial configurations. the Six Gods of the Six Jia, and the Twelve Hourly Spirits to ride with me as I go. Upon reaching that place and performing that task, protect me on the left and right; accompany me as I walk or stop, and as I sleep or rise. Ward off bandits and thieves, and cause ghosts and spirits to perish. If I encounter them, let my joy be doubled..."
