This post was formerly a Garrison Commander but was upgraded and redesignated in the 23rd year of the Jiajing reign (1544). The commander is stationed at Wuzhai Literal: "Five Stockades" and oversees six Guards, including Changde. His jurisdiction includes the Pacification Commission of Yongshun and the Expeditionary Commission of Shinan, the Suanziping Chiefship, and the two Garrison Commanders of Zhensuan and Yong. Additionally, he oversees the Tongren Chiefship and Garrison in Guizhou, as well as the Youyang Expeditionary Commission and the Chiefships of Pingcha and Yumei in Sichuan.
This position was newly established in the 9th year of the Wanli reign (1581).
The following list details the specific officers responsible for the defense of fortified cities and key mountain passes.
These positions are all long-established. The officers are stationed at Yizhang and are under the strategic control of the Grand Coordinator Grand Coordinator: a high-ranking civil official with military oversight, often called a Xunfu and the Assistant Regional Commander of Southern Gan.
