Zhangjiawan District Established as a Defense Command beiyu in the 43rd year of the Jiajing era [1564], then upgraded to a Defender shoubei in the 3rd year of the Wanli era [1575]. Zhangjiawan was a critical port on the Grand Canal, serving as the primary unloading point for goods destined for Beijing.
